Several significant updates are coming to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program that could affect how you earn and keep your status. Here is a breakdown of what is changing.
Status Credit Rollover
If you earn more status credits than you need in a membership year, they will no longer go to waste. Unused credits will roll over to the following year, replacing the old Loyalty Bonus system.
The rollover limits by tier are: Silver up to 100, Gold up to 300, and Platinum and Platinum One up to 500 status credits.
Earning Status Credits Without Flying
This is a significant shift. Everyday spending through credit cards, hotels, fuel, utilities, and shopping will now contribute status credits toward your next tier. Those credits will also count toward lifetime status, opening up a meaningful new pathway for frequent flyers who do not always have the flight volume to match their spending.
A New Perk for Lifetime Gold Members
For every 10,000 status credits earned beyond the Lifetime Gold threshold, members will receive a complimentary year of Platinum status. Up to five years can be banked, rewarding members who continue to engage with the program well beyond the lifetime threshold.
One Target to Earn and Keep Status from 2027
From 2027 the program moves to a single annual target for both earning and retaining each tier. Gold, for example, will require 700 status credits per year. This simplifies the structure but means the bar for keeping status becomes more defined and consistent.
If you are actively working toward a status tier, these changes are worth factoring into your strategy sooner rather than later.
