…and most people have no idea until they are at the airport!

It looks like a regular domestic booking. The check-in process is anything but.

Which Flights This Applies To

Jetstar flights numbered between JQ1 and JQ224 depart from the international terminal. These services may pick up domestic passengers before continuing overseas. They are fully bookable as standard domestic tickets, which is exactly why so many travellers are caught off guard when they arrive at the wrong terminal or show up without enough time.

What Is Different About These Flights

Everything about the check-in process differs from a standard domestic Jetstar flight. Online check-in is not available, so you cannot sort your boarding pass from home. You need to arrive at least two hours before departure, significantly earlier than a typical domestic flight requires.

You will go through immigration and customs. Photo ID is required for Australian passengers, and non-Australian passengers must present a passport. International carry-on baggage restrictions apply, including the 100ml liquids rule that does not apply on standard domestic services.

What to Do Before You Fly

Check your itinerary carefully before you pack and before you head to the airport. Your flight number will tell you whether this applies. If your Jetstar booking falls between JQ1 and JQ224, treat it like an international departure in terms of preparation, arrival time, and what you pack in your carry-on.

Finding this out at the airport rather than before you leave home is a genuinely stressful way to start a trip.
