Where to Start
To request a Jetstar business class upgrade with Qantas Points, head to jetstar.com, click Menu and then choose Business Class Upgrades. From there, enter your booking details so the system can check whether you are eligible.
Check the Eligibility Rules First
The upgrade only works on international flights operated by Jetstar’s 787 Dreamliner. Destinations currently serviced by the Dreamliner are: Phuket, Ho Chi Minh City, Tokyo, Bangkok, Singapore, Osaka and Seoul. But always check with Jetstar to confirm, as this list is subject to change. It also does not work on bookings made through qantas.com, so make sure you booked directly with Jetstar. If your booking does not meet these conditions, you won’t be able to request an upgrade.
Choose Your Upgrade Type
If you are eligible, you will be asked to choose an upgrade type. A Classic upgrade uses a fixed number of Qantas Points, so you know the cost upfront. BidCash lets you make an offer using cash or points, which gives you more control over the price but no guarantee of success.
Submit Your Request and Wait
Once you submit your request, the waiting begins. You can hear back at any point up to four hours before departure, so the outcome may not arrive until close to your flight. Do not check in until you receive the result, or your upgrade will not be valid.
There Is No Risk in Trying
Points are only deducted if your request is successful. That means you can apply without worrying about losing points on an upgrade that does not come through. The worst outcome is staying in the economy seat you already paid for.
Request Early for the Best Chance
Submit your request as soon as you have booked. Classic upgrades are processed in order of request, so the earlier you apply, the better your position in the queue. Waiting until the last minute could mean missing out to someone who requested their upgrade sooner.
Quick Recap
Book directly with Jetstar, check that your flight is an international 787 service, request your upgrade early and hold off on checking in until you hear back. It takes a few minutes and costs nothing if the upgrade is not approved.
