Bali still has a lot going for it. But after spending time in both destinations back to back, Da Nang is making a stronger case than most travellers realise.
The Case Against Bali Right Now
Bali is still beautiful and worth visiting. But the traffic in Canggu and Seminyak has become a genuine problem. It can eat hours out of your day in ways that are hard to plan around and impossible to avoid during peak times. Prices have also crept up significantly, narrowing the gap between Bali and more expensive destinations.
What Da Nang Does Better
Da Nang felt like a different world by comparison. A Grab across the city cost under $5. A proper sit-down meal was between $3 to $5. The beach was long, clean, and quiet without the crowds that come with Bali’s more popular strips.
The airport is modern and easy to navigate, and transfers into the city are straightforward from the moment you land.
The Hoi An Factor
Thirty minutes south of Da Nang sits Hoi An, one of the best towns in Southeast Asia. Ancient town, lantern lit streets, excellent food, and a completely different pace to the coast. Having that as a day trip or overnight option from Da Nang adds serious value to the destination.
The Honest Verdict
If you are weighing up a Southeast Asia trip right now, Da Nang offers more value, less friction, and genuinely just as much enjoyment as Bali at a lower cost and with fewer headaches.
