A five-star rating means nothing if the hotel does not suit how you actually travel.

Location Should Match Your Travel Style

Take Singapore as an example. The Marina Bay Sands is stunning and genuinely self-contained. If you want luxury, a casino, and everything under one roof, it delivers. But if you want to explore, eat at hawker markets, wander through parks, and shop, staying there works against you.

On my last Singapore trip I chose to stay near City Hall instead. Hawker markets, green spaces, and shopping all within easy reach, plus a direct MRT line straight to the airport. It suited the way I wanted to experience the city far better than a resort-style complex would have.

The Question to Ask Before You Book

Before you search hotels, ask yourself how you actually plan to spend your time. A well-located mid-range hotel will often deliver a better overall trip than a high-end property that leaves you isolated from everything you came to see.

Stars matter less than fit.
