The paid domes get most of the attention. The outdoor gardens are free to enter and genuinely worth a couple of hours of your time.

What is Out There

The outdoor section is divided into themed areas including the Silver Garden and Golden Garden, each with distinct planting and landscaping. There is a floral clock, a striking floating baby statue, and some of the best views of Marina Bay Sands and the Singapore city skyline available anywhere in the precinct.

Most visitors walk through briefly on their way to the domes. What a mistake!

Worth Stopping For

When you need a break, there is a dinosaur themed cafe in the gardens that is worth a visit. And if you want to go higher, the OCBC Skyway is a paid add-on that connects the Supertrees via an elevated walkway, giving you a completely different perspective over the gardens and the bay below.

When to Visit

The outdoor section is best experienced in the early morning or evening when the temperature drops. Midday heat in Singapore is significant even with shade, and spending extended time outside in the middle of the day takes the edge off what should be an enjoyable experience.

Early morning in particular offers cooler conditions, better light for photos, and noticeably fewer crowds.

Free Does Not Mean Lesser

The outdoor gardens hold their own against the paid attractions. If you are planning a visit to Gardens by the Bay, build in time for the outdoor section rather than treating it as an afterthought.
